Week 16 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards rushing in a single season was set in 1984.

This record was believed by many to be unbreakable in the modern era of pass-first offense.

Adrian Peterson is just 294 yards away from that record with two games left to play.

The Vikings are still in the Playoff hunt.

They face Houston and Green Bay in these next two games and must win both.

Peterson is averaging over 160 rushing yards per game since week 7.

Eli Manning was drafted as a QB that was just outside the elite tier of guys at his position.

Many believed that he was going to take a step forward this season and join that elite class.

Eli is the 19th best QB in the NFL as far as fantasy points scored on the season.

In 4 of the last 7 games, Eli has 5 of fewer fantasy points.

Eli has only had THREE 300+ yard passing games on the season.

If you are still alive in the playoffs and Eli is your QB, you are incredibly lucky.

Eli is UNSTARTABLE the rest of the season.

Demaryius Thomas now has 5 straight games under 100 yards receiving.

He has not scored a TD in 2 straight games.

The Broncos offense has been just fine in these games.

Thomas will remain a top 10 fantasy WR on my rankings.

I hate Tony Romo.  He is an AWFUL NFL QB.

He makes incredibly stupid decisions at seemingly random times and I would not trust him to run my offense if I was an NFL head coach.

Tony Romo is a top 10 fantasy QB.

I surprised myself saying that, as I have been very critical of Romo all season long.

Tony has had double digit fantasy points every week since week 4.

Romo plays two BAD secondaries in his final two games. (New Orleans and Washington)

I would start Romo in the Super Bowl over Roethlisberger, Dalton, Stafford, Eli Manning, Freeman, Flacco and Schaub.

The NFL leader in touchdown receptions is James Jones.

Jones has just half the catches of Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall and Wes Welker.

Jones has a measly 622 receiving yards.

James Jones will not be my top ranked Packers wide receiver.

I wish you all the best of luck in your super bowl match-ups this weekend.

Week 15 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

Adrian Peterson has had 100 yards in 7 straight games.

He has 8 touchdowns in that same stretch of games.

He has only one game without a score in that 7 games.

Adrian Peterson is the unquestionable number 1 overall RB for fantasy owners, sorry Arian Foster.

Aaron Rodgers had a pretty bad statistical performance this past week.

There was significant snowfall in this game and a 10 mile per hour wind.

The weather was not a factor.

Aaron Rodgers is not someone you can even consider benching in the fantasy playoffs.

You a very possibly out of the playoffs if you own Aaron Rodgers.

When you drafted Ray Rice, you thought he was going to be a sure-fire 100 yard rusher.

He only has 3 100 yard rushing performances.

Rice has just 3 games over 100 yards rushing.

He is every bit as talented as he ever was.

The Ravens and the recently fired offensive coordinator, Cam Cameron, were just not game planning to Rice’s strengths.

This is why Cam Cameron is now unemployed.

Jim Caldwell would probably like to keep his new job.

Jim Caldwell is going to plan for a run-first offense.

Ray Rice is as valuable as he has been all season long.

AJ Green scored a TD in every game from week 2 through week 11.

He now has 3 straight games without a score.

Before this drought, Green had been incredibly successful for the entirety of his young career.

You can, under NO circumstance, even CONSIDER benching Green.

Week 14 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

Colin Kaepernick had a bad game in Week 13 against the Rams.

He had a solid completion percentage of roughly 60%.

He only threw for 200 yards and an interception.

Kaepernick had 14 fantasy points in week 13.

The safety that comes from his running ability makes Colin Kaepernick a top 10 fantasy QB.

Since the turn of the millennium, just one running back has followed up a season-ending ACL tear with a 1,000 yard season.

There are two running backs that are over 1,000 yards rushing on the season that finished last year with an ACL tear, Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles.

Jamaal Charles suffered his injury in week 2 and was expected to make a strong return because of that.

Adrian Peterson suffered his injury and the fact that he was playing at such a high level, immediately, is nothing short of a medical marvel.

Peterson is the NFL’s leading rusher by a margin of 308 yards and is the NFL’s top scoring fantasy RB.

Bryce Brown is averaging 173.5 yards per game and two TDs.

LeSean McCoy has not had more than 150 yards rushing at all this season.

McCoy has just two rushing TDs on the season.

Bryce Brown is a gifted athlete with a very bright future in this league.

If LeSean McCoy returns from injury and is 100% this week, I expect Brown to get roughly half the carries.

Everyone knows how well Doug Martin has run the ball this season, with 1100 yards and 9 rushing TDs.

Not many people have noticed his pass catching ability.

Martin has been targeted 47 times and has amassed 374 receiving yards plus one receiving TD.

Doug Martin is a complete, three down back that will be a very highly ranked RB going into next season, especially in PPR leagues.

Randall Cobb is a top 15 WR in most fantasy analysts’ rankings.

Jordy Nelson has re-injured himself so even though Greg Jennings has returned, Cobb will see the field plenty.

James Jones will start along with Jennings for the Packers in 2 WR sets.

Randall Cobb has fewer receiving yards than any other top 20 WR on the season with 675.

Cobb also has the lowest number of targets (84) among top 20 WRs on the season.

Randall Cobb is not to be considered a top 20 wide receiver during the fantasy playoffs.

Week 13 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

The New York Giants have the second easiest schedule for fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs for the playoffs.

Ahmad Bradshaw is 15th in the NFL in points scored among running backs.

Andre Brown has been the goal line back since he played relief-duty for Bradshaw earlier in the season.

Brown is now on IR and Bradshaw will be getting those goal line touches.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis has just 2 100 yard games and 5 TDs on the entire season.

2 of those 100 yard games have come in the last two weeks.

In each of those games he also scored once.

The emergence of Andy Dalton and the passing game has helped bring the 8th man out of the box and into pass coverage.

Cincinnati has an incredibly tough schedule for fantasy points allowed during the playoffs.

The Law Firm is going to sit at around 18 or so in my rankings headed into the playoffs.

Denarius Moore had at least 4 catches in every game between weeks 3 and 10.

Moore has just 2 catches in as many games.

Oakland has the 5th hardest schedule for fantasy production at the wide receiver position.

Moore is not going to be anything more than a bad flex play headed into the playoffs.

Josh Gordon is a big-play threat.

Gordon has not scored a TD in 5 weeks, which includes a bye week.

Brandon Weeden has a good chance to make it back to action in time for next week’s game.

The next three match-ups for Cleveland are Oakland, Kansas City and Washington.

Gordon is a poor flex option in a standard 10 team league.

Brandon Lloyd has just 1 game with more than 5 receptions since week 3.

Lloyd has just 3 TDs on the season.

Brandon Lloyd is only even a consideration at the flex position for one more week, while we see what happens with Gronkowski out.

Week 12 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

There are only 3 teams in the NFL with a worse ranked pass defense than the Washington Redskins.

DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin combined for 2 catches, 5 yards and ZERO fantasy points this week against Washington.

Nick Foles completed just 45.6% of his passes in this game on 46 attempts with 2 interceptions and 3 fumbles, all of which were recovered by the Eagles.

There are no Eagles that I will consider playing, apart from LeSean McCoy, until Vick is back on the field.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were an irrelevant team to fantasy owners before this week.

The Jags lost their starting QB due to injury and benched their starting RB in the first quarter of this week’s Texans game.

They were beating the AFC’s best team by 14 points in the 4th quarter.

Justin Blackmon doubled his receiving yardage and TD total on the season with Chad Henne at the helm, totaling 236 yards and a score.

Blackmon is the top fantasy receiver on the team and has more upside than Shorts or Robinson have had all season long.

Jalen Parmele did what everyone hoped Rashad Jennings could do, in the toughest divisional match-up of the year, with 24 carries and 8 yards.

Parmele is a flex-worthy play next week and until MJD returns.

This article contains easily three times the “Jaguars talk” that has appeared on this site all season long.

Andrew Luck is the 7th highest scoring fantasy-player in the NFL so far this season.

He only has two difficult match-ups on the horizon and they are both against the Texans, in weeks 15 and 17.

Luck HAS to be considered a top 10 QB in every week that he is not playing against Houston.

Colin Kaepernick looked FAR more poised in  the pocket this week as opposed to last week.

He was effective at stretching the field vertically and his ability to run must be accounted for at all times.

His value will very likely be higher than Alex Smith’s is as the starter, should he indeed get the job.

Week 10 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

Antonio Brown has been outscored on the season by Mike Williams, Brian Hartline, Jeremy Kerley, Michael Crabtree, Cecil Shorts, Santana Moss, Anquan Boldin and Golden Tate.

Antonio Brown will not crack my top 30 again without a couple of good games in a row.

Doug Martin did not have a 100 yard rushing performance before week 8.

Martin is 186 yards off of the NFL’s rushing leader, Adrian Peterson.

Martin is 3 TDs off of the NFL’s leader in rushing scores, Arian Foster.

Doug Martin is the highest scoring running back, for fantasy purposes, in the National Football League.

Brandon Marshall has five games with a TD.

Only one of these games did NOT also come with 100 yards receiving.

Marshall only has one BAD game this season. (2 points in week 2).

Andre Brown has not rushed more than 7 times in a game since week 3.

Brown has not amassed more than 21 yards in a game in the same time frame.

He has one TD per game for three consecutive games.

All three TDs were goal line carries.

Demaryius Thomas is widely considered to be a top 10 Wide Receiver.

Eric Decker is, generally, not ranked inside the top 20 among Wide Receivers.

Eric Decker has outscored Demaryius Thomas by 6 points on the season.

Both Randall Cobb and James Jones are top 10 fantasy wide receivers.

They have just one 100 yard receiving game between the pair of them.

Week 9 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

Over the past 4 weeks, Chris Givens has not scored fewer than 8 fantasy points.

Over that same time frame, Brandon Gibson has only one game with 8 or more fantasy points.

Chris Givens is owned in just 2.9% of fantasy leagues and Gibson is owned in almost 40%.

This makes ZERO sense.

Antonio Brown and his one TD is viewed as a disappointment by almost all of his fantasy owners.

Brown has NEVER had more than 2 TDs in a season.

His value comes from receptions, yardage and number of passing attempts by the Steelers.

If you expected Brown to be over 5 TDs by now, you are crazy.

There is no need to panic on Brown, he remains a low-end WR2/really good WR3.

There have been six teams in the past four weeks that have totaled over 100 yards rushing on Thursday night football.

Two of them were facing the Seahawks and the 49ers (same game), two VERY stout rush defenses.

Defenses are not performing up to par on a short week’s worth of rest.

Start your running backs on Thursday night.

Josh Freeman has scored no fewer than 28 fantasy points in the past 3 weeks.

Freeman plays against Oakland, San Diego and Carolina in the next three weeks, none of which are scary match-ups.

Freeman is a border-line top 10 QB until he stops producing like one.

Michael Bush has not scored a TD since week 2.

Bush has not seen double digit touches since week 3.

He has not tallied more than 55 yards rushing all season.

Michael Bush is nothing more than a handcuff to Matt Forte.

Cam Newton has only had 2 games over 20 fantasy points.

Newton also has 2 games under 10 fantasy points.

Cam Newton is no longer a top 10 QB.

Reggie Bush has FOUR games of six or fewer fantasy points

Daniel Thomas received more carries last week than Reggie Bush.

I am VERY concerned about Bush’s fantasy value going forward.

You still have to start Bush as your RB#2.

Josh Gordon FINALLY had a game without a TD this month.

Gordon is almost exclusively a “big play threat”.

The weather was pretty crumby for last week’s game.

Gordon was still targeted 5 times in week 8.

I will not downgrade Gordon because of last week’s four fantasy point performance.

Week 8 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

Ben Roethlisberger has not scored fewer than 13 fantasy points in any game this season.

Big Ben is 8th in fantasy points among QB’s and has already had his bye week.

Big Ben plays against Washington in week 8, who is allowing an average of 328 yards per game through the air.

The Steelers running backs are incredibly banged up.

Big Ben is a top 10 QB again, even without any teams on bye.

Josh Gordon has 4 TD’s in his last 3 games.

Gordon dropped a sure-fire second TD pass last week.

Gordon has scored more fantasy points on the season than Andre Johnson, Dez Bryant, Antonio Brown, Brandon Lloyd and Steve Smith.

Gordon is STILL available in over 60% of leagues.

Josh Gordon is a flexible receiver during the bye weeks.

Alfred Morris is one yard off of being the NFL’s leading rusher.

Morris has not once rushed for more than 120 yards.

Morris has only one game with fewer than 10 fantasy points

Alfred Morris is the most consistent RB in the NFL.

I still have a serious man-crush on Alfred Morris.

Percy Harvin has only had over 20 fantasy points in a game once this season

Harvin is the fourth highest scoring fantasy receiver in the NFL.

Harvin has been active for EVERY game since week 14 of 2010.

Harvin has caught at least one pass in every NFL game that he has played in.

Percy Harvin is officially a “stud”.

My ONLY concern with Darren McFadden during the preseason was his durability.

Darren McFadden is only rushing for just over 3 yards per carry.

McFadden has not been injured at all this season.

McFadden is well on his way to being the biggest bust of your 2012 fantasy draft.

Vincent Jackson has 4 TDs in the last 3 games.

VJax has over 15 fantasy points in 4 of the 6 games he has played this season.

In the next four weeks, the Buccaneers do not play a single team that is in the top 10 of pass defenses.

Vincent Jackson is an excellent WR2 for further notice.

Week 7 One Liners

POSTED BY Big Jim | No Comments »

If you follow me closely on twitter, you know that I am done writing my Studs n’ Duds article for now.  I have a new job and since I can’t quite get the podcast, my rankings and my Love/Hate post all done that day, I had to do a little shuffling of the schedule.  I decided that I can bring more value to my readers with a new post on Tuesdays and this is the first one.  From here on out, there won’t be paragraphs of text, just succinct thoughts and facts for you to analyze however you chose.  Lastly, I am not in love with the name of the post so feel free to give me some ideas in the comments or by email!

One Liners

Kendall Hunter is averaging 5.4 yards per carry, which is exactly the same as Frank Gore.

He is accounting for just about one third of the carries with both backs healthy.

Kendall Hunter is more than just a handcuff.

Drew Brees is the top scoring fantasy player in the NFL with 116 points.

Drew Brees is the only one of the top 7 QBs to have already had his bye week.

RGIII is completing over 70% of his passes.

He is the only QB completing over 70% of his passes.

If he didn’t run again the entire season, I would still rank him as a top 10 RB.

Alfred Morris is one of only 5 running backs in the NFL with 100 or more carries through the first 6 weeks of the season.

He is averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

He is the 5th highest scoring RB in the NFL for fantasy owners.

I love absolutely everything about Alfred Morris.

Jamaal Charles leads the NFL with 552 rushing yards.

Arian Foster is in 2nd place with 532 rushing yards.

Jamaal Charles has carried the ball 29 times less than Arian Foster, which is a full game-worth of touches.

AJ Green has scored a touch down in every game this season, except for week 1.

Andy Dalton is an average at best when it comes to throwing the deep ball.

AJ Green has either 5 receptions, a touchdown or 100 yards receiving in all but three games of his career.

None of those games were this season.

AJ Green is the best overall receiver in the National Football League.

Brian Hartline leads the NFL with 514 receiving yards.

He was not even targeted ONCE in week 6 against the Rams.

I do not trust Brian Hartline as a weekly starter, even at the flex position.

Washington’s two best defensive players are on IR.

They have allowed 1234 receiving yards and 8 TDs to opposing wide receivers this season.

Any starting receiver is worthy of a flex-play against the Washington Redskins secondary.

That is all the stats, observations and inferences that I have for you this week.
